SIGMA

SIGMA

Ever since I finished my Megaman X & Zero kitbashes, I had started thinking about making some adversaries for the two.  The first two that came to mind were Vile and Sigma.  While my Vile kitbash is mostly done, the Sigma build came together pretty smoothly (other than the head) as I already had an idea of what kits I wanted to use for the kitbash.

The only real difficulty with this kitbash was selecting an appropriate head to replicate Sigma’s.  Sigma has a pretty distinguished face that didn’t have many similar mecha options to choose from.  At first, I believed the Kotobukiya Governor Para-Pawn Expander to be a perfect match, but in reality the head was far too small in scale to even fit the build.  In truth, I had finished the body for sigma several months ago, but it took me a long time to find a suitable face due to long shipping times for the parts.   In the end, I combined one of the face plates from from a kotobukiya mobile support good kits with some good ol’ epoxy putty to get the desired “roundness” of Sigma’s head.  Of course I wasn’t able to achieve a hyper realistic anime face like the later installments, so I tried to make it look more like Sigma from the original SNES version.  I gave it my best, but I’m really inexperienced at face sculpting with just a scriber!

Sigma is considerably taller than both X and Zero in the games and the “Day of Sigma” OVA.  Because of this, I chose to use the Pacific Rim Uprising HG Obsidian Fury kit for the body of Sigma.  Recoloring the kit turned out quite well, though I wasn’t able to fit in some of the smaller details like his spiked cuffs.  Luckily, the height and size of the kit was proportional enough to fit the cape I got from a Bandai General Grievous kit.  I was also able to get a sheet of stickers with the Maverick logo custom made in a size to fit this kit.

I can’t wait to finish my Megaman X tribute with my Vile kitbash, but I first need to put the finishing touches onto another “surprise” kit beforehand.  As most of us know from the X series, the first form of Sigma is never the final boss…
