GN-0000 00 Raiser

Blast from the past: Double 00 Raisers

Coincidentally, the RG 00 Raiser was my first RG kit after coming back into the hobby in 2016 that really blew my mind with the potential of RG kits.  However, that kit was the P-bandai 00 Raiser Trans-am gloss injection version.  Unpacking my collection of RG kits from my suitcase recently, I realized there was a glaring omission.  Many of my newer RG kits are painted but with the gloss-injection, I couldn’t really appreciate the kit in the same way.  The 00 Gundam is one of my favorite mobile suit designs, so I decided to get another and try painting it.  I made some changes to the kit including painting the knee area look more reminiscent to the seven swords version and the tops of the shoulders for a bit more color variation.  After making it, I fell in love with this kit all over again; the articulation, build complexity, detailing, the amount of weaponry/extras make this one of the best RGs to pick up.  Kit review and build details following the image gallery. Enjoy!

Kit Review:
PROS:

  • Tons of extras: GN condenser tanks, GN II Swords, beam sabers, GN Sword effect parts, GN Shields, and my favorite, the GN Sword III
  • Great articulation & posability
  • 00 Gundam can support the weight of the 00 Raiser without a stand (but much better with one)
  • 00 Raiser looks great on its own
  • Awesome detailing particularly on the clear green parts
  • Build complexity and fun
  • Great value for money

CONS:

  • Minor gripe: 00 Raiser tends too look a bit too bulky and convoluted with everything attached
  • GN drive holders tend to scrape the paint off the top of the shoulder when posing

Paints used:

  • Tamiya TS 44, Brilliant Blue
  • Tamiya TS 27, Matte White
  • Tamiya TS 39, Mica Red
  • Tamiya TS 34, Camel yellow
  • Tamiya TS 38, gun metal
  • Tamiya TS 42, light gun metal
  • Tamiya TS 82, Rubber black
